I have changed the character slightly and the name. In my book, he is known as ‘Johnny Boots’ but anyone that knows Johnny, will instantly recognise him within the pages.
As strange as it may sound, I feel he is a great character to have in a book that depicts the end of the world. As I did in the last book ‘When there’s no more room in Hell’, I am trying to get the perspective of a broad spectrum of the population. Not all of the people I write about have Hollywood smiles and killer hair. They’re as real as can be, warts and all.
So how would Johnny cope? How would he deal with a world where civilisation has been turned on its head and the dead stalk the streets in search of living flesh? Truthfully, I don’t think it would be a huge impact on him. He spends his whole time on the fringes of society and frowned upon by most people who come in to contact with him anyway.
In an apocalyptic world of walking dead, he would just have to tread more carefully and be less inclined to shout “FUCK OFF” at anyone who didn’t acknowledge him.
Good luck Johnny, lets hope you make it.
