I regretfully announce the loss of yet another fallen comrade and great friend,
Marc McGowan, sadly passed away yesterday while in Afghanistan.
He was a man of great character and a true friend. Always quick to laugh and see the funnier side of almost any event and situation, Marc was a man that could be relied upon to carry you through even the toughest of times.
Marc and I served together in the Parachute Regiment where we developed a strong bond that remained to this day. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Sleep well my friend.
Still a big shock to everyone, So sad to have lost a very good friend, you was loved by everyone who knew you, R.I.P. Big GOWY, God only knows when we will meet again, ill never for get the good times we have had, memories ill cherish for every, sleep easy mate see you on the other side xxx

Gowy was a legend. One of the toughest and funniest men I ever knew and I will always miss him.
I know this though, Marc and Liam will be tearing it up in Valhallah as we speak!
So true Luke they will be hitting it hard together up there no doubt right now, just wish he could of met his beautiful baby girl before he left for a better place, you made me smile laugh all the time Marc always lookedforward to you coming home for a good drink an a catch up, again Marc R.I.P an keep that drink on hold for us up there until our paths cross again, love you Marc always an forever but not forgotten will I miss you, sleep tight now my good friend see you on the other side some day xxxxx

I am proud to be Marc’s cousin , he served Queen & country, he was mysterious & Intriguing (he bloody loved that I am sure) he seemed indistructable he was our James Bond. We ! that means everyone who knew you , are going to bloody miss you, but you’ll never be forgot ,

I am a reporter on the Hull Daily Mail. I’ve recently returned from Afghanistan, where I had the honour of being embedded with 1 YORKS and saw first-hand and up-close the bravery of our blokes – and I include in that the ex-Forces contractors.
I’ve seen all the cracking tributes to Marc, including the one from you in the back of our paper today. With your permission, I’d like to run a proper tribute from you, to your brother, in Monday’s paper to honour what he did for this country and his family.
